Vladamir Klitschko vs. Lamon Brewster/Corey Spinks vs. Zab Judah- The Preview -written April 10, 2004 by Aaron Sean Bayley Tonight at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Zab Judah and Vladamir Klitschko both have soemthing to prove in their fights against Corey Spinks and Lamon Brewster, respectively. Judah is coming off a first round knockout win in December over Jamie Rangel in a mismatch which was on the same card as Spinks vs. Mayorga, where Spinks captured the welterweight title. Judah is stronger and quicker than Spinks, but has moved up in weight and with the exception of the Rangel fight looked ordinary against Omar Weis and Demarcus Corley. Both Judah and Spinks are southpaws, and this could make for a boring fight (see Corley vs. Judah), but Judah won't respect Spinks' punching power and should come out more agressively than he's been doing lately. Hopefully Judah, who's volatile personality is not unlike Mike Tyson's, will come out on all cylinders and resemble Mike in a way that doesn't involve choking referees or throwing ringstools. Prediction: Judah KO 8 On April 24th, Vitali Klitschko will be fighting Corrie Sanders for the linear heavyweight championship of the world. Ironically, it was Sanders who derailed younger brother Vladamir's hopes of fighting for the title, when he knocked him out last January. In that fight, Vladamir looked bad. I mean REALLY bad. he couldn't take the heat, couldn't deal with the pressure. Conventional wisdom says that a refocused Klitschko 42-2 (36) should knock out Brewster 29-2 (26), but the gut feeling is that Klitschko will get knocked out. Remember, Sanders, like Brewster, was considered a tune-up for Vladamir, and the beating he took was so bad that the Ukrainian giant could not possibly have the confidence he had when he beat Ray Mercer. Everyone knows that to beat Vladamir Klitshcko you have to pressure him, and boxers that aren't supposed to beat him have a chance. And Brewster, who went the distance in losses to Clfford Etienne and Charles Shufford, will do just that. Prediction: Brewster KO 3 © 2004 Aaron Bayley |
