King PPV A Stinker
-written April 21, 2004 by Aaron Sean Bayley

Lennox Lewis left the building in the eight round. Fans booed during the whole fight. They verbally abused Don King. One fan stood up during the sixth round and yelled, "This is the worst fight I've ever seen. I want my money back."

And this was only the Ruiz-Oquendo undercard. The fight was jab, clinch, repeat. Big surprise for a fight featuring John Ruiz. It was stated as a joke that the referee stopped the fight in the eleventh round after Oquendo was taking some punishment, because he wanted to save the crowd from further torture. And Oquendo wants a REMATCH. Fuck, not if I can help it.

The Andrew Golota-Chris Byrd fight was no barnburner, but the fight preceding it made it look like Hagler-Hearns. The fight was scored a draw, with the fans clearly cheering Golota, who last fought at Madison Square Garden in the infamous low blow disqualification bout against Riddick Bowe, sparking a riot.

Golota stalked and landed; Byrd slipped and countered. The fight showed that Golota is still a heavyweight to be reckoned with, and deserves a title shot. Wouldn't Golota vs. Vitali Klitschko be nice? That is, provided Klitschko gets by Corrie Sanders this Saturday and wins the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world.
