Pound-For-Pound Pretty Boy?: Mayweather Outclasses Corley
-written May 28, 2004 by Aaron Sean Bayley

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is burning through the pound-for-pound ratings in search of the pound-for-pound crown. And he wants everyone to know who the REAL P4P champion is.

As the crowd in Atlantic City, New Jersey stood on its feet and brought the roof down with thunderous applause, "Pretty Boy" Floyd outboxed, outmuscled, and outclassed Demarcus "Chop Chop" Corley, winning a lopsided decision. After almost getting into big trouble in the fourth round when he got caught by a hard punch to the chin, Mayweather settled down and went to work.

And it was classic Mayweather.

He slipped. He ducked. He threw rapid-fire combinations and speeding bullet lead rights. He demonstrated his awesome defensive skills. And he knocked Corley down twice, in the 8th and 10th rounds. He did all this after moving up from the lightweight division in his first fight at 140. For a guy who's not supposed to be a big puncher, he did to Corley what Zab Judah couldn't do- beat him decisively. Mayweather won almost every single round of the fight, and towards the end, Corley's corner asked him if he wanted to quit. To "Chop Chop's" credit, he finished the fight.

But he was no match for Mayweather. They may be in the same weight class, but Floyd Mayweather Jr. is clearly in a class by himself. And with talks of a possible Mayweather-Spinks bout at 147 gaining momentum, he may not be in this weight class for long, either.
