Wright Beats Mosley Again
-written November 21, 2004 by Aaron Sean Bayley

Ronald "Winky" Wright retained his WBC and WBA titles with a majority decision win over "Sugar" Shane Mosley in Las Vegas last night.

The fight was closer than the first, with Mosley moving better and landing more flush shots, but other than that it was a carbon copy of their first encounter which saw Wright win a unanimous decision. This time, Mosley threw more combinations and used angles to set up his left hook. His confidence seemed to grow with each passing round, but at one point in the fight, a grinning Wright held his hands down by his side while being tagged with a left-right, his way of throwing Mosley off his game by showing that he couldn't hurt him.

The plan worked, as Mosley resorted to his desperate, brawling tactics of the first fight while Wright established his jab and clinched to stem any momentum Mosley tried to generate. Unlike the first fight, Mosley was the aggressor for most of this one, but still came up short on the scorecards with scores of 114-114, and 115-113 twice for Wright. I scored it 115-115, a draw. wright improves his record to 48-3 (25), while Mosley drops to 39-4 (35).

Wright called out Bernard Hopkins, Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad, while Mosley dismissed the possibility of going back down to 147 lbs, saying that he'll continue to fight at 154.
