McCircus: "Iron Mike" Takes On McBride In Comeback Fight - written June 10th, 2005 by Aaron S. Bayley When Mike Tyson was stopped by Danny Williams in his last fight, it seemed that even the most disillusioned Tyson fan had to come to the realization that "Iron Mike" was done. Now that the excuse given for the loss, a knee injury suffered during the fight, seems a litle more credible, Tyson will try to resume his plans of fighting frequently until he's ready to challenge for the heavyweight championship of the world. If that seems hard to believe, remember, we're talking about Mike Tyson here. While Tyson has suspended belief in more of a carnivalesque, theatrical way than by anything he's done in the ring recently, because he is Mike Tyson an early sensational knockout over tomato-can McBride could very well have him fighting Vitali Klitschko within a year. McBride is such a stiff that it would be logical to predict Tyson's knockout by the second, rather than by the round. While the media attention will be focused on this debacle, real boxing fans will be saving their money and watching the Cotto-Abdullaev card on HBO. While I've always been a huge Tyson fan and wish him luck, I've moved on, as any real boxing fan would. Sure, there will always be that curiosity of "What will Mike do this time?", but the parasitic relationship between the media and Tyson is pathetic and would be funny if it weren't so sad. Tyson stopped being a purely boxing subject a long time ago. He is now a pop culture train wreck for most people, a reality television show for voyeurs obsessed with the Tyson mythology.
